About

Canadian Journalists for Justice in Palestine (CJJP) formed in May 2025 out of a growing network of Canadian journalists horrified by the ongoing genocide and ethnic cleansing in Palestine — and the deliberate targeting of journalists in Gaza and across the occupied Palestinian territories. In 2024, some founding members organized vigils in cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, and Whitehorse to honour fallen colleagues. Recognizing the need for more coordinated action, we came together under a unified banner with a clear mission and voice.

We are not a newsroom or union — we are a solidarity organization, rooted in the ethics of journalism as public service, truth-telling, and justice work.

Since Oct. 2023, more journalists have been killed in Gaza than in World War I, World War II, Vietnam, Yugoslavia, and Afghanistan combined. Journalists in Palestine are being deliberately targeted, silenced, and killed — and Canadian media has been largely silent. CJJP exists to ensure Canadian journalists do not remain complicit through silence. Each of us has a role to play in defending truth, resisting censorship, and standing with colleagues under attack.

Our mandate

  • Demand an end to violence against Palestinian journalists, and name Israel as the aggressor targeting, arresting, and killing journalists
  • Connect with and support Palestinian journalists materially (funds, equipment, safety resources, media connections and more)
  • Advocate for genuinely fair reporting standards on Israel-Palestine in Canadian outlets
  • Support Canadian journalists facing censorship, moral injury, or professional risk when speaking truthfully about Palestine
  • Approach journalism not just as a profession but as a practice of justice and accountability
  • Act as a collective voice to shield journalists from professional consequences
